PTA council elects officers

Stella Y. Edwards has been elected president of the Chesterfield County Council of Parent Teacher Associations and Parent Teacher Student Associations.

Other new leaders are:

Debbie Levenson, vice president; Martha Rubin, secretary; and Verena McCall, treasurer.Magisterial district vice presidents are: Stacy Townes, Bermuda District; Laura Hartwig, Clover Hill District; Alan Flynn, Dale District; John Schultz, Matoaca District; and Leslie Haley, Midlothian District.

In addition, volunteers were recognized. John Schultz, Gordon Elementary, was named Volunteer of the Year for Elementary PTA; Nancy Ellena, Chester Middle School, was named Secondary Volunteer of the Year.

Nearly 200 parents, teachers, principals, assistant principals, School Board members, Superintendent Marcus J. Newsome and other friends of PTA attended the annual Awards and Recognition Dinner on April 21, 2008, at the county's Technical Center.

Guests enjoyed a dinner prepared and served by students in the county's Culinary Program; decorative flowers were courtesy of the Tech Center Greenhouse Department. Music was rendered by Serena Campbell, an eighth-grade cellist from Matoaca Middle School.
