Transit plan public hearings set across state

The Commonwealth Transportation Board will hold public hearings around the state this month and next on Virginia's 2009-2014 transportation-improvement plan.

The board wants comments from the public about which highway, rail, public transportation, commuter services, bicycle and pedestrian projects should be included in the plan, to be approved in June.

The working draft of the six-year plan will be available for review at VirginiaDOT.org and at Virginia Department of Transportation district and residency offices after tomorrow.

The hearings will be held in the following localities:

  • Lynchburg, 5 p.m. tomorrow, Holiday Inn Select Downtown, 601 Main St.
  • Bristol, 6 p.m. Monday, VDOT Bristol District Office Auditorium, 870 Bonham Road.
  • Richmond, 6 p.m. April 23, VDOT Central Office Auditorium, 1221 E. Broad St.
  • Chesapeake, 6 p.m. April 24, Hampton Roads Planning District, Regional Building, 723 Woodlake Drive.
  • Harrisonburg, 6 p.m. April 30, Rockingham County Administration Center, 20 E. Gay St.
  • Annandale, 7:30 p.m. May 14, Northern Virginia Community College, Ernst Cultural Center Forum, 8333 Little River Turnpike. -- Peter Bacqué
