Rick Boyko was named Richmond's Ad Person of the Year at last night's Richmond Show.

The annual award show presented by the Richmond Ad Club was held at the Virginia Historical Society. The show honors the best advertising work created locally.

Boyko was honored for his contribution to advertising in the region. He is director of the Brandcenter, the nationally recognized graduate advertising school at Virginia Commonwealth University. The ad club received about 340 nominations and 120 student entries. Judges from agencies in New York City, Washington, Charlotte, N.C., and Boston selected the 62 winners.

Gold, silver and bronze cannonballs went to winners in three categories. The top work in each category won a best in show award.

Richmond Show awards are the biggest prize for local agencies. The Martin Agency collected 26 trophies.

In the advertising category, Siddal Inc. and Elevation won a gold each, and The Martin Agency won three. The Martin Agency also won two best in shows.

In design, Martin won three golds. Work Labs won one and took home best in show.

In interactive, BCF won two golds. Martin won best in show.

Brandcenter swept the student category, winning gold and best in show honors.

"We're thrilled with the number of agencies that won this year," said Rob Reid, marketing director for the Richmond Ad Club and a senior buyer at RightMinds. "It shows how much talent there is in Richmond."
