Hours before President Clinton's campaign appearances tonight in Roanoke and Richmond, Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell noted that the former president has previously questioned Obama's credentials.
"It is not often that I agree with Bill Clinton," McDonnell said in a statement. "However, President Clinton was right when he repeatedly questioned if Barack Obama has the experience necessary to serve as commander in chief.
"Today Bill Clinton is in Richmond and Roanoke doing his duty as a loyal partisan less than four weeks before Election Day. But when he was free to speak his mind, the former president made very important points regarding Barack Obama's limited experience, and this should cause voters concern."
Clinton, who backed his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, during Democratic primaries, is scheduled to campaign for Obama tonight at 6:15 p.m. at Market Square in Roanoke. He then heads to Richmond for a 9:30 p.m. appearance at the Student Commons Plaza at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin campaigns Monday afternoon at Richmond International Raceway, after a morning rally at which she will join Sen. John McCain in Virginia Beach.
Citing "overwhelming demand" for tickets, the McCain campaign moved the Palin event from the Arthur Ashe Center, which has 6,000 seats, to RIR, which can hold more than 100,000 people.
Tickets for the Palin event are available at Virginia.johnmccain.com. and at local McCain-Palin campaign offices.
McCain and Palin are making their second public campaign trip to Virginia since they received their parties' nominations. Sen. Barack Obama has made six general election campaign trips to Virginia.
