A University of Virginia spokeswoman says "it does not appear that any university students were involved" in a shooting early this morning that left one man dead and three others injured in the University Corner area.

Officers were summoned about 2 a.m. to Pacino's Deli at 1329 W. Main St. and found the body of 22-year-old Phillip E. Adams Jr. of Charlottesville lying on a sidewalk outside. He had an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to UVA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Three other people were wounded, but their injuries were described as not life-threatening. Police are not releasing their names.

Police are searching for Darryl Andre Johnson, 20, who is charged with murder, use of a firearm in a murder, malicious wounding and use of a firearm in a malicious wounding, police said.

Anyone with information on Johnson is asked to call city Detective James Mooney at (434) 970-3374.
