An early-morning fire caused about $50,000 in damages to a home in eastern Hanover County today.

Hanover firefighters responded to a call at 4:19 a.m. at 9071 Pine Hill Road and found heavy fire in the home's attic. They put out the fire in about 20 minutes.

No one was injured. The home was occupied by a woman who got out safely, according to Battalion Chief William Jones. The woman is staying with a neighbor and does not need assistance from the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Jones said the house was equipped with smoke detectors that were working properly.

Three engine companies, a truck company, and battalion chief responded to the fire call.
