Two Powhatan County residents were killed Saturday in a two-vehicle crash in Amelia County, state police said today.

The crash happened about 5:35 p.m. when a car traveling south on Chula Road stopped at U.S. 360 and then moved onto U.S. 360 without yielding to a westbound sport utility vehicle, said Sgt. Tom Cunningham with Virginia State Police.

The SUV hit the car.

The driver of the car, Heather Nicole Morris, 22, died at the scene, police said. Her passenger, Sidney Michael Samuel, 23, was taken to Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center in Chesterfield County, where he was pronounced dead.

Morris was wearing a seat belt; Samuel was not, state police said.

Three people in the SUV were hospitalized with injuries described as not life-threatening. Two of the three were wearing seat belts, according to police. It was unclear whether the other was wearing one, police said.
