CHESAPEAKE -- A Chesapeake man is facing a felony animal cruelty charge after police say he killed his dog with a sword.

Police say officers went to the home of Robert A. Young Jr. yesterday after a neighbor reported seeing Young put the 50-pound pit bull's carcass in an outdoor trash can.

Spokeswoman Dorienne Boykin says investigators determined that Young, who was intoxicated, used a sword to kill the dog.

Young also was charged with having no rabies vaccine and no city license for the dog.
