A Cedar Bluff man died after a single-vehicle crash in Tazewell County in Southwest Virginia on Friday, Virginia State Police reported.
Daniel Ray Houchins, 21, was driving south on state Route 67, about 5 miles south of state Route 620, when his pickup truck went over an embankment and struck a tree shortly after 4 p.m., police said. Houchins, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. He died at a Richlands-area hospital at 4:57 p.m.
Hugh M. Hummer, 65, of Berryville died on Tuesday from injuries he received in a single-vehicle crash in Clarke County on Aug. 21, police said. Hummer's pickup truck went off the road on state Route 7 Business, about a mile west of state Route 1019, struck a fence and a utility pole, police said. Hummer was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
Virginia has had 557 road deaths so far this year, compared with 680 at this time last year.
