The National Weather Service has just issued a flash flood watch for much of the eastern half of Virginia for late tonight through tomorrow evening in advance of tropical storm Hanna.
The weather service says points as far west as Fluvanna County should be on the lookout for showers, isolated thunderstorms and heavy rains that will mainly occur tomorrow morning through the afternoon hours.
The weather service says Hanna is expected to bring average rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches to the affected parts of Virginia, with some areas possibly getting more than 6 inches. These rainfall amounts have the potential to produce flash flooding.
Hanna is forecast to strengthen slightly before making landfall in eastern North Carolina late tonight. While its exact track remains uncertain, the most likely effects in Virginia will be limited to heavy rain, high winds and possible tornados.
