Richmond officials wrestle daily with issues small and big
and, as it happened Saturday, sometimes even with a pig.
A dainty lady, Marigold, inspired their latest toil
as she nosed through the neighborhood, the 2300 block of Royall.
Undaunted, although the city shelter has never by design
been meant to handle residents of the species porcine,
two officers corralled the pig, all of her 200 pound
as she no doubt was thinking: "Once lost, now I am found."
Led to the truck, they steered her in; she promptly broke the ramp,
but still, they brought her to the shelter and a place to camp.
On fresh, clean hay she now reclines, in a kiddie pool she'll dream.
City officials feed her fruits and vegetables -- sometimes even ice cream.
Well cared for she was, if somewhat plump, clearly she's someone's pet.
No signs that from a truck she fell, so says the shelter vet.
