Closure of the state Route 5 bridge over the Chickahominy River was delayed one day because of rain, VDOT said yesterday.
The Judith Stewart Dresser Memorial Bridge in Charles City County will be closed from 11 p.m. today until 5 a.m. tomorrow for construction work.
Travelers will need to make a 63-mile detour. The Virginia Department of Transportation urged drivers to make alternate travel plans or allow at least an additional 90 minutes for their trip.

During the bridge closure, construction crews will continue pouring the concrete deck for the new Route 5 bridge.
VDOT plans to close the bridge three separate nights during the next two months to speed the work on the replacement bridge.
