A Caroline County woman will be sentenced today after being convicted a second time of killing her state trooper husband.

In March, jurors recommended that Donna L. Blanton, 42, be sentenced to life in prison, one day after convicting her of first-degree murder.

She was found guilty of the Oct. 16, 2003, slaying of her husband, 1st Sgt. Taylor V. Blanton, in their home. She was also convicted of using a firearm in commission of a felony.

Blanton had been convicted in 2005 in Caroline County and sentenced to 28 years in prison but won an appeal. The Virginia Court of Appeals last year found that gender wrongly played a role in how the prosecutor at the time selected which potential jurors he did not want to hear the case.

The retrial was moved out of Bowling Green because of extensive news coverage of the case and the trial.
