The Judith Stewart Dresser Memorial Bridge on state Route 5 over the Chickahominy River in Charles City County will be closed from 11 p.m. Wednesday until 5 a.m. Thursday.
Travelers will take a 63-mile detour. The Virginia Department of Transportation urged drivers to make alternate travel plans or allow at least an hour and a half additional time for their trip.

During the bridge closure, construction crews will continue pouring the concrete deck for the new Route 5 bridge.
VDOT plans to close the bridge three more nights -- though not consecutively -- over the next two months to speed the work on the replacement bridge.
