Authorities have arrested a 15-year-old Caroline County boy in Sunday morning's shooting in Ashland, and they are searching for a 21-year-old man.

Police charged the teenager with malicious wounding in the shooting, which took place shortly after midnight in the 300 block of New Street. They did not release the boy's name because of his age. He is being held in a juvenile detention facility, police said.

Town police are looking for Vodell Dupree Tillman of Caroline. He faces charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and of firing a gun in Ashland.

Town police Lt. James Shelhorse noted that Tillman is not accused of shooting at anyone, but of firing a weapon around the time of the shooting.

Officers responded that morning to a report of shots fired and found a large group of people fleeing the area and a man who had been shot in the back and leg. He was taken to VCU Medical Center, where he underwent surgery on his leg. An update on his condition was unavailable yesterday.

Police said yesterday that the shooting happened outside a home where there was a large party. Witnesses told police that an uninvited person had been asked to leave, police said.

Shelhorse said yesterday that neither the 15-year-old nor Tillman had been invited to the party. The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Ashland police at (804) 412-0600.
