Richmond Braves outfielder Josh Anderson ran his club-record hitting streak to 27 games by leading off with a single tonight in a game in Columbus, Ohio -- but the Braves fell to the Columbus Clippers again .
The Clippers racked up five runs in the third inning en route to a 6-1 win. Anderson's double in the fifth inning drove in Richmond's only run. He is batting .318.
Anderson has matched the longest streak in Triple-A this year -- by Peter Cioforne of Portland, in the Pacific Coast League. Anderson is just three shy of the longest steak in the minor leagues this year -- a 30-game streak by Quinten Berry of Clearwater in the Class A Florida State League. Neither of those streaks is active.
The next best streak in the International League this season is Randy Ruiz's 24-game streak earlier this year.
The R-Braves have 11 games left after tonight, so this season Anderson won't be able to reach the all-time IL record (43, set by Columbus' Brandon Watson last year) or the all-time minor-league record (69, set by Wichita's Joe Wilhoit in 1919).
The previous R-Braves' hitting-streak record of 19 straight was set by Junior Moore in 1976 and matched by Jarvis Brown in 1994.
