Henrico County police say an ongoing domestic dispute appears to be the motive for a shooting in Highland Springs this morning that left one person dead, another hurt and a third in custody.

Lt. Doug Perry said Leon Clifton Lightfoot, 42, has been charged with first-degree murder and illegal use of a firearm and faces additional charges for allegedly shooting two nephews.

One of the nephews, Deon E. Johnson Jr., 19, was declared dead at the scene, an apartment where the three lived in the 900 block of Hurtsborne Court, just west of Highland Springs Elementary School.

Another nephew, 27, was taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound that police said was not life-threatening. Police did not release the wounded man's name.

Lt. Steve Sparagna said the shooting was reported shortly before 2 a.m., and when officers arrived, they found Johnson dead and the other nephew injured.

Lightfoot was taken into custody about a block from the apartment, Sparagna said.
