CHARLOTTESVILLE -- University of Virginia football coach Al Groh isn't ready to say who'll start at quarterback against Southern California on Aug. 30, but he's settled on a kicker.

"If it keeps going the way it is, we'll start the game with Yannick Reyering," Groh said today on a teleconference with reporters.

Reyering is 6-5, 205-pound senior from Mettingen, Germany, who until this year never had kicked a football or worn a football uniform. He starred in soccer at U.Va. but has one season of football eligibility.

Look for him to handle kickoffs, extra points and field goals against the Trojans. Reyering beat out redshirt freshman Chris Hinkebein and true freshman Robert Randolph.

"All three of them have done a nice job," Groh said. -- Jeff White
