A former Lawrenceville Correctional Center officer is to be sentenced today for bribery involving an inmate.

Former Lt. Harold Douglas Jr. faces 10 years in prison when he is sentenced this morning in Brunswick County Circuit Court.

Inmate David E. Davis, who told officials he paid $2,000 to Douglas, also has been convicted of bribery.

Davis told authorities that Douglas demanded money by threatening to charge him with false offenses and with violence.

Lawrenceville, with 1,500, medium-security inmates, is Virginia's only privately run prison.
