Robin R. Barron is set to be released from jail today after serving four months.

The 37-year-old mother of five faced up to 20 years in prison this morning when she was sentenced on four felony charges of child neglect. However, Henrico County Circuit Judge George F. Tidey sentenced her to four years and suspended all of that but four months of jail time that Barron had already served.

The Hanover County resident was found drunk when her car crashed into a fire hydrant in February. Four children were in the car, according to police, and authorities developed information that Barron had spent part of the evening in a bar and restaurant drinking.

Patrons tried to keep her from leaving because of her condition and after hearing one of the children crying inside the vehicle, according to police.

Barron made an impassioned plea to the court this morning that she had changed her ways and was dedicated to recovery from alcoholism.
