Ashland police are searching for a person who entered a party last night and fired gunshots, injuring one person in the back and leg.

The shooting happened about 11 p.m. inside a residence of the 300 block of New Street, where a large party was taking place, Lt. James Shelhorse said.

According to witnesses, an uninvited guest crashed the party and was asked to leave, Shelhorse said. The adult who was injured was taken to VCU Medical Center, where he underwent surgery on his leg. His injuries are not critical, Shelhorse said.

Police are still talking to witnesses to piece together what happened. No one has been arrested as of tonight.
