New Kent teen, 3 motorcyclists killed in wrecks

A New Kent County teen was killed early yesterday in a single-car wreck on state Route 605 in King and Queen County.

Dustin L. Johnson, 18, of Quinton was headed north about 3 a.m. when his pickup truck ran off the road, Virginia State Police said. He overcorrected and the truck overturned. Johnson was ejected and died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

Also yesterday:

  • In Hampton, Theresa L. Hunt, 50, of Hayes was killed after her motorcycle wrecked and she was struck by another vehicle.

    Police said she was exiting Interstate 64 at 2:52 a.m. when her motorcycle hit a guardrail. She was thrown into the opposite lane, where she was run over by an unknown vehicle. She died at the scene at 3 a.m. Police said they had no information on the vehicle that hit her.

  • In Washington County, Joshua A. Smith, 21, of Raven was killed when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck. Smith was headed south on state Route 75 near state Route 633 when he crossed the centerline into the path of the pickup, police said. He died at the scene at 1:58 p.m.
  • In Wythe County, Walter J. Wolcott, 71, of Tampa, Fla., died after his motorcycle ran off Interstate 81, 1 mile south of state Route 90. He died at 10:57 a.m. at Wythe County Community Hospital.

    The fatalities bring to 501 the number of people who have been killed on the state's highways this year. At the same time last year, 604 had died.
