Carytown glitch disrupts power to 2,200
Wednesday, Jul 23, 2008 - 11:30 PM
A flaming power pole in Carytown tonight left about 2,200 customers without electricity. The problem apparently originated with a failed cross-arm, which caused a fire shortly after 8 p.m., said Dominion Virginia Power spokesman Karl Neddenien. The pole is at Cary Street and Beaumont Avenue, just east of Cary Court Shopping Center. As of 11 p.m., Dominion was rerouting power for 1,500 customers, Neddenien said. He said he expected repairs to be made and power restored to the last 700 customers by tomorrow morning.
