SUSSEX -- One of Michael Vick's dogfighting co-defendants appears in court today.
Tony Taylor has already served a two-month federal prison term for his role in the former NFL star's dogfighting enterprise. Now Taylor faces state charges in Surry County Circuit Court, and he'll appear in court today to have a trial date set by a judge.
Taylor is charged with beating or killing or causing dogs to fight other dogs, and engaging in or promoting dogfighting. Both charges are felonies punishable by up to five years in prison.
Vick and two other co-defendants face the same charges. Prosecutors said they'll be tried after finish serving their federal prison terms for dogfighting conspiracy charges.
With good behavior, Vick could get out of the minimum-security federal prison facility in Leavenworth, Kan., on July 20, 2009.
