Henrico police will host a dedication ceremony tomorrow for the county's new state-of-the-art animal shelter at 10421 Woodman Road.
The ceremony will be at 1 p.m.
Among the features at the new animal-protection shelter, which opened May 20, is a power-washing system to make it easier and more effective to clean the animal runs and cages. There is also an environmental HVAC system that exchanges 100 percent of the air in the facility eight to 10 times an hour.
The shelter has 80 dog runs and 65 cat cages to house lost and stray animals. There is also an outdoor, sheltered area for displaced, large domesticated animals, including horses, goats, fowl and pot-bellied pigs.
In 2007, Henrico animal protection officers reunited 616 pets with their owners, captured 1,263 wild animals and transferred or adopted 764 animals to new homes.
