NORFOLK -- Prosecutors have dropped armed robbery charges against Norfolk State University basketball player Brandon Monroe.
Monroe had been accused of stealing a wallet, cell phone, handbag and credit cards from a man and a woman on Old Dominion University's campus in April.
The 21-year-old junior forward's attorney, Michael Fasnaro, says it was a case of mistaken identity. He says witnesses described the suspect as being about 6-foot-2. Monroe is 6-foot-7.
Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney's Office spokeswoman Amanda Howie says evidence didn't support prosecuting Monroe.
However, charges remain against a second person arrested in the robberies. Alfred Noel II is charged with one count each of robbery and illegal use of a firearm in a commission of a felony.
