HERNDON -- The father of a 21-month-old boy who died after being left unattended all day in a vehicle has been charged with manslaughter.

Herndon Police say that Miles H. Harrison of Purcellville forgot to drop off his son at day care and left the boy in his sport-utility vehicle in a parking lot at his workplace in Herndon.

Police responded around 5 p.m. yesterday when someone noticed the boy inside the vehicle. Harrison ran to the vehicle and collapsed when alerted that his son had been locked in the car, police said. He was taken to the hospital.

An autopsy is planned for this week.
