Chesterfield police today said they have charged a Manassas man with attempted manslaughter and other crimes stemming from a police chase early yesterday morning that ended when a car the man was driving overturned.
Octavio Esquivel-Rodriquez, 21, was taken to VCU Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries after the crash, police said.
In addition to the attempted manslaughter charge, which originates from a collision with a pursuing police vehicle, Esquivel-Rodriquez is charged with driving under the influence, failure to obey a traffic signal and eluding police, according to Chesterfield Sgt. Kenneth E. James.
Police began pursing the suspect's vehicle shortly before 3 a.m. yesterday after he failed to stop for a police officer. The 1999 Chrysler Town & Country overturned as it tried to negotiate the entrance ramp from the southbound lane of Jefferson Davis Highway onto southbound state Route 288.
