Richmond police are investigating a shooting today near Powhatan Pool in Fulton that sent swimmers, many of them children, running for cover.Officer Chloe Gail was providing security at the pool when she heard four to five gunshots at about 4:10 p.m. She said about 75 people were using the pool, including children who were there with their day-care center.
"They started panicking in here," she said. "People were jumping out of the pool."
Gail said she tried to get swimmers to go into the men's and women's locker rooms to take cover. She looked outside the pool and saw several youths scattering on foot. On Northampton Street near Goddin Street, a group of youths picked up the victim, put him in a car and drove off, she said.
"I could see them pick somebody up -- I heard someone say 'Pick him up and take him to the hospital,'" Gail said.
Police did not immediately identify the victim or suspects.
