Police responded around 11 p.m. to a report of a man shot in the abdomen in the 5200 block of Salem Street near the intersection of Nelson Street in East Richmond.

The victim, who was taken to VCU Medical Center by ambulance, was conscious and breathing, according to police radio reports.

Police are looking for a late-model van that had been spotted leaving the scene around the time of the shooting.

No other details were immediately available.
