NORFOLK -- Former Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick will appear in court Sept. 10 on charges of driving under the influence and eluding police after a traffic stop early Friday.

Police said that shortly after 2 a.m., a uniformed bicycle patrol officer observed the 24-year-old Vick and a female involved in an altercation while they were sitting in a vehicle. When the officer asked for a driver's license, police said, Vick sped away. He was stopped minutes later.

Vick, the brother of imprisoned Atlanta Falcons quarterback and former Tech star Michael Vick, failed a field sobriety test and was charged with DUI, misdemeanor eluding police, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.

He was released on $1,000 bond pending his next court appearance.

The passenger, 24-year-old Delicia Cordon of Miami, was charged with being drunk in public. She was released and also is due in court in September.

This isn't Marcus Vick's first brush with the law.

In August 2004, he was convicted of possession of marijuana stemming from a traffic stop on Interstate 64 in New Kent County.

In September 2004, he was convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for serving alcohol to a 15-year-old girl at a party at his Blacksburg apartment. In December 2005, Vick was charged in Hampton with speeding and driving with a suspended license.

On Jan. 2, 2006, he stomped on the leg of University of Louisville defensive end Elvis Dumervil during the Gator Bowl. Vick was dismissed from Virginia Tech's football team four days later because of "a cumulative effect of legal infractions and unsportsmanlike play," said school President Charles W. Steger.

In March 2006, Vick pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in connection with an incident where people said he pulled a gun on them at a McDonald's parking lot in Suffolk.

Vick was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2006 by the Miami Dolphins. He played one game at wide receiver and was released in May 2007.
