Nine men and a woman have died on Virginia roadways during the past week, Virginia State Police reported.
The most recent victim was Adrian John Boguniecki of Roanoke, who died Friday at 1:39 p.m. after he stepped into the traffic lanes of a city street and was struck by a truck's passenger-side mirror, police said.
Boguniecki, 23, was walking west on the gravel shoulder of Hershberger Road and without looking, police said, walked into the road and was hit.
Early Friday morning, a man was killed in a single-car crash in Virginia Beach.
John Glen Armstrong, 46, of Virginia Beach was going west on Edinburgh Drive at a high rate of speed about 1:30 a.m. when his car struck a utility pole at the intersection with Green Castle Lane, police said.
He was wearing a seat belt, authorities said.
Five men died on Thursday, state police said.
Adolphe Menjou Thornton Jr. of Norfolk died Thursday at 12:45 a.m. when his motorcycle hit a light pole on Interstate 64 just east of Chesapeake Boulevard in Norfolk, police said. He was wearing a helmet.
A father and a son from New Jersey died in a two-vehicle crash in Stafford County early Thursday, police said.
Peter W. Baubles, 64, the driver, and Colin M. Baubles, 21, both of Manasquan, N.J., died at the scene shortly before 2 a.m.
The Baubles' vehicle was traveling south on Interstate 95 at a high rate of speed, changed lanes near state Route 610 and struck a tractor-trailer in the rear, state police said. Neither man was wearing a seat belt, authorities said.
Juan Luis Gonzalez Castro of Harrisonburg died early Thursday in Rockbridge County.
Castro, 20, was the passenger in a sport-utility vehicle that went off Interstate 81 and overturned north of state Route 710, police said.
Castro died at the scene at 4:21 a.m. He was not wearing a seat belt, authorities.
Huu Dai Pham of Dover, Del., died at the scene of a crash Thursday at 3:10 p.m. in Fairfax County. Pham, 57, was a passenger in a sport utility vehicle that was struck by a falling tree on Hummer Road just south of state Route 650, police said.
The tree fell during a storm and struck and crushed the vehicle as it was moving, police said.
He was wearing a seat belt, authorities said.
On Wednesday, Maude Holtslag Ward, 50, of Woodstock died of injuries she received in a two-vehicle crash in Shenandoah County on Tuesday.
Ward's sport utility vehicle turned left on South Main Street at West Reservoir Road and was struck by a truck at 11:27 a.m., police said. She died the next day at a Woodstock-area hospital.
Just before midnight last Sunday, Malcolm Giermachew Dori, 22, of Virginia Beach died in a two-vehicle crash in New Kent County, police said.
Dori was traveling west on Interstate 64 at a high rate of speed about 2 miles east of state Route 33, police said. His car struck a car from behind, both cars went into the median and Dori's car burst into flames at 11:50 p.m., police said.
About three hours later, a York County man died in a motorcycle crash in York County..
Dustin Joe Barrack, 22, was traveling east on Lakeside Drive when his motorcycle crashed into a ditch at the road's intersection with Bailey Road, police said.
Barrack was wearing a helmet, police said.
The fatalities brought the 2008 death toll on Virginia roads to 337, compared with 405 at the same time last year.
