Mayor L. Douglas Wilder said today that an interim police chief will be selected from inside the Richmond Police Department in the near future to take over for departing Chief Rodney Monroe.

Monroe announced yesterday that he accepted a job to become chief of police in Charlotte, N.C. He is to be on the job there no later than June 16.

Wilder, who hired Monroe three years ago, announced this morning that he would not seek a second term as Richmond's mayor.
