Heaviest rains moving out of Richmond

The heaviest rains are slowly sliding northeast past the Richmond region, but the National Weather Service says more could be possible later this morning.

At 6 a.m., a tornado warning expired for the areas immediately northeast of Richmond, but a tornado watch remains in effect for much of central and eastern Virginia until 9 a.m.

The areas immediately east and southeast of Richmond remain under a severe thunderstorm warning.

Flash flooding is occurring in the usual areas around the Richmond region this morning, so drivers should be on alert for ponding.

There are scattered reports of trees down and a few reports of traffic accidents.

In the Richmond region, the heaviest rain is expected to pass by 7 a.m., but more thunderstorms are possible later this morning, according to the weather service.
