Created by General Assembly in 1966 to provide comprehensive higher education and work-force training programs and services.

Composed of 23 colleges on 40 campuses

Serves 240,000 students Offers:

a two-year associate's degree or a technical diploma or certificate;

college courses for credits that may be transferred to a four-year institution;

developmental, remedial and continuing adult education programs.

Awarded 15,636 degrees and certificates last year. Richmond area:

John Tyler and J. Sargeant Reynolds community colleges serve the Richmond area, offering degrees in subjects from accounting to welding.

On Saturday , John Tyler will confer 672 degrees and Reynolds 1,000.
