KING AND QUEEN -- A garbage hauler bound for a commercial landfill was charged with reckless driving and several counts of operating a vehicle with defective equipment Thursday after his tractor-trailer overturned.
The accident happened Thursday afternoon on state Route 14 midway between state Route 33 and Little Plymouth, said Lt. William Balderson of the county Sheriff's Department.
No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.
Driver Osmar Ahmed Abdelrahman, 49, of Woodbridge had to be removed from the cab through its front windshield but was not injured.
Balderson said Abdelrahman was speeding and that the rig's brakes and tires were defective and its frame was out of alignment.
The truck belongs to Solo Trucking company in Lorton, Balderson said.
Route 14 safety concerns are an enduring issue in King and Queen, which has a long history of accidents involving tractor-trailers bound for the landfill near Little Plymouth that is operated by Allied Waste.
A garbage hauler slammed into a unmarked state police cruiser in February at Route 14 and state Route 614, which leads to the landfill.
Trooper R.E. Ward was briefly hospitalized for injuries.
