Richmond is closing parts of two downtown streets over the weekend for work on two buildings.

The city will close westbound lanes of East Leigh Street from Mosby Street to North 11th Street, including the westbound lanes of the Martin Luther King Bridge, from 6 p.m. on Friday until 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The closure will allow crews to use cranes to replace heating and air conditioning units on the roof of the Virginia Commonwealth University facility at 1100 E. Leigh Street.

Motorists will be detoured south onto Mosby Street, right on Venable Street, left onto Oliver Hill Way, right onto E. Broad Street, right onto N. 11th Street and then turn left onto E. Leigh Street.

Also this weekend, Richmond will close the 10th Street Extension between South 7th and South 10th Streets from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Again, the closure will allow use of a crane to replace a transformer at the Riverfront Plaza building, located at 901 East Byrd St.
