Wilder wants to free school funds

Mayor L. Douglas Wilder wants to end his administration's freeze on more than $1.4 million promised for school maintenance work.
In a letter to City Council members released late yesterday, Wilder asked them to shift the money from one budget category to another to let school officials use the funds.
"While I remain skeptical, I do not wish to stand in the way of getting these projects completed," Wilder said.
He said if the projects weren't completed by April 2009, the council should demand a detailed explanation.
