A 19-year-old Richmond man was convicted today on charges that he shot and gravely wounded a Blue Bunny ice-cream vendor on a school playground parking lot in October.

Richmond Circuit Judge Walter W. Stout III, after listening to about two hours of testimony, convicted Dante Lamont Lewis on six charges, including aggravated malicious wounding.

Lewis faces sentencing April 1.

The four witnesses who testified against Lewis today included Daniel Teodorescu, who detailed how he was shot Oct. 7 while trying to serve an ice-cream bar in a parking lot next to the playground at E.S.H. Greene Elementary School in South Richmond.

A bullet went through Teodorescu's right shoulder, fracturing two bones and causing nerve damage, before tearing through his vocal cords, damaging them as well.

Teodorescu, who spent 22 days in VCU Medical Center and is continuing his recovery in the Richmond area, has regained the ability to speak and use his right arm, but he likely will have permanent damage to portions of his vocal cords.
