The Virginia Tech shootings are the most devastating incident of campus violence in U.S. history.
Below are some other shootings involving Virginia college students during the past dozen years:
Feb. 26, 2007 A Virginia Union University football player is shot in an apartment near campus.
Sep. 12, 2006 A University of Virginia student is shot on the porch of his off-campus rental home during a robbery.
Aug. 26, 2005 Two Virginia Union University students are shot while walking near campus.
April 28, 2004 A University of Virginia football player is shot at a party at a dormitory.
April 11, 2004 During an outdoor party in downtown Richmond after a hip-hop festival at Paramount's Kings Dominion, a Virginia State University student is fatally shot while sitting behind the wheel of his vehicle in a VCU parking lot.
April 7, 2004 A Hampton University student is shot and killed after masked gunmen burst into his off-campus apartment.
Nov. 3, 2003 A 19-year-old man is shot and killed in front of the student center at Norfolk State University.
Oct. 16, 2003 A Virginia State University student is fatally shot at a hotel used for off-campus student housing.
Jan. 16, 2002 A dean, a professor and a student are fatally shot and three students are wounded during a shooting rampage at the Appalachian School of Law. Peter Odighizuwa, a student who was being forced out of the school because of bad grades, pleaded guilty to murder in February 2004 and is serving six life sentences in prison.
Feb. 4, 2001 A James Madison University student shoots his roommate in their apartment during a card game.
March 29, 2001 Three people are shot at the western edge of the Virginia Union University campus.
Aug. 31, 1999 Two Virginia Union University students are shot while walking two blocks from campus.
