Ten Fan homes open for tours

"Simple Elegance" is the theme of the Fan Woman's Club Kitchen and Garden Tour tomorrow from 1 to 6 p.m.

Ten kitchens and gardens will be open, including a William Bottomley designed home on Lee Circle at 1800 Monument Ave.

Homes on the tour are:

  • 1400 Grove Ave., a four-story Carneal & Johnston-designed home that once operated as a rest home;
  • 1401 Grove Ave., with multiple little gardens and a back patio;
  • 107 N. Harvie St., featuring a renovated kitchen that originally was two rooms;
  • 1824 Grove Ave., which has a new chef's kitchen and family eating area;
  • 1924 Hanover Ave., with a large, open kitchen overlooking a perennial garden;
  • 2204 Grove Ave., recently renovated home with an ongoing exterior restoration of double porches and swimming-pool construction;
  • 306 N. Rowland St., fresh off a comprehensive eight-month renovation;
  • 1817 Park Ave., recently renovated and expanded;
  • 1800 Monument Ave., a William L. Bottomley Georgian with a spacious deck and garden; and
  • 2006 Monument Ave., featuring a new garden and a kitchen with its original Victorian radiator bread warmer.

    Tickets are $15 today at Belle and Kitchen Kuisine (Stony Point only), Compleat Gourmet, Cuppa Tea Co., Hampton House, Shades of Light, Strawberry Street Vineyard and Tweed. Tickets are $20 tomorrow at Belle and Kitchen Cuisine, Strawberry Street Vineyard, Tweed and at the hospitality center at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1627 Monument Ave.

    Limited parking, shuttles, refreshments and restroom facilities also will be available at the church.

    Proceeds benefit area community organizations such as the READ Center, Science Museum of Virginia, Visual Arts Center, Fan Free Clinic, Meals on Wheels and local fire stations. The money also funds Fan neighborhood improvement projects.
