Arthritis workshop

The Arthritis Foundation is offering "Exercise Rx," a free workshop with exercise demonstrations and lectures by local rheumatologists and arthritis fitness experts. The workshop dates and locations are:

  • Tomorrow: 1 to 3 p.m., HCA Henrico Doctors' Hospital (Parham).
  • May 17, 9 to 11 a.m., CJW Medical Center (Chippenham).
  • May 21, 6 to 8 p.m., CJW Medical Center (Johnston-Willis).

    Finding your true self

    "Finding and Honoring the Self," will be the topic of a seminar next Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Center for Personal and Relationship Enhancement, 13804 Hull Street Road, Suite 202.

    Exploring dementia

    The Alzheimer's Association Greater Richmond Chapter will hold a conference Saturday to discuss dementia among blacks from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 216 W. Leigh St.

    The cost is $10, which includes lunch.

    Essay contest

    John Randolph Medical Center is sponsoring an essay contest for middle and high school students.

    Students are invited to submit a 250to 500-word typed essay describing what the hospital's mission, "Our Family Taking Care of Yours," means to them. The deadline is May 23. To apply, students must include their name, school, grade and contact information, and e-mail it to jrmccommunityrelations@hcahealthcare.com or mail it to John Randolph Medical Center, 411 W. Randolph Road, Hopewell, VA 23860, Attn: Marketing.

    A winner will be selected at the middle and high school levels and each will receive a $250 savings bond. Winners will be announced June 21.

    Shoulder pain

    "Resolving Shoulder Pain," will be the topic of a free seminar today from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Cheswick Room at Henrico Doctors' Hospital (Parham), 7700 E. Parham Road.

    Prostate cancer

    An US TOO Prostate Cancer Awareness Training Workshop to reach underserved men will be held tomorrow from noon to 3 p.m. in the auxiliary building of Ridge Baptist Church, 1515 E. Ridge Road.
