Celebrate Easter with Peter Rabbit this weekend at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden or stop by Maymont to pet a real bunny.
Family Easter at Maymont will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Baby bunnies and other farm animals will be on display at the Children's Farm, and the "Egg-cellent" Egg Hunt for children ages 2 to 10 will be held on the Carriage House Lawn.
Other activities include storytelling, carriage rides, bonnet and hat making, a winding burlap maze and a giant moonwalk. Some activities require fees of $1 to $4.
The event also will include storytelling under the Bunny Tree with Pam Bomboy, musical entertainment and a park-wide Golden Egg Hunt.
Free tram rides between the Children's Farm and the Carriage House Lawn will be available.
At Lewis Ginter, Peter Rabbit will make the rounds from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, a storyteller will tell classic Peter Rabbit tales from 1 to 4 p.m., and the Richmond Concert Band will perform from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Bloemendaal House.
Families may also take part in the ongoing event called Kid Quest, which lets them test their mapping skills by following clues to a hidden treasure.
Saturday will mark the beginning of the garden's annual A Million Blooms, a succession of blooming daffodils, cherry blossoms, tulips, irises, roses and peonies.
The garden's landscapes will be framed -- literally -- from an artistic perspective. For "Art in Bloom," picture frames will showcase landscape vignettes and complement the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts' "Landscapes from the Age of Impressionism" exhibit.
Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is at 1800 Lakeside Ave. Admission is $6 to $10. For more information, call (804) 262-9887.
Admission is free to Maymont's grounds. The Carriage House Lawn entrance is at 1700 Hampton St. The Children's Farm entrance, off Spottswood Road and Shirley Lane, is across from Dogwood Dell, where additional parking will be available. For more information, call (804) 358-7166. -- Karin Kapsidelis
