This organization operates 15 branch locations?including an outdoor center? and all but one, the James Center YMCA, offer camp programs for youth. Almost everyone is close to a YMCA. ?YMCA camps are modeled on our four core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and we structure them to allow children to have fun in a safe, nurturing environment,? said John Wallace, Marketing and Communications Associate Director of the YMCA of Greater Richmond. The area?s largest provider of childcare, the YMCA takes safety very seriously. ?The branches? camp programs vary and can include day camps, youth sports, and specialty camps, which offer anything from science camps to chef courses to photography,? said Wallace.

Love the outdoors? YMCA Camp Thunderbird has 100 acres of glorious woodland. The camp offers archery, canoeing, arts and crafts, swimming, hiking, a zip line, pony rides, a water park, challenge course, petting farm, and more. Many family members have ties to this camp. ?Camp Thunderbird is special, because many children will make friends for a lifetime,? said Camp Director Patrick Edmunds.

Families are invited to pool parties, picnics, and skits. Every other week, the camp has an overnight camp out. ?It?s a really great place, and we love kids.? Sound good? The easily accessible camp has free bus stops throughout the Greater Richmond area.

The YMCA of Greater Richmond is committed to remaining open to all. ?We provide financial assistance to ensure that household income does not pose a barrier to your child?s camp experience,? said Wallace.
