Jeffrey Scott Carrowiano faces up to 40 years in prison when he is sentenced today in Henrico Circuit Court for providing the methadone that killed a Sandston man in March 2007.

The conviction hinged on Carrowiano's sales of methadone to Larry Wayne Smith, 26, an unemployed painter and a married father of three young children.

Carrowiano, 28, of the 4100 block of Mallard Landing Circle in Chesterfield County, was convicted April 16 of murder.

Forensics experts testified that lethal levels of methadone were in Smith's system. Smith died of respiratory distress brought on by the drug.
