A man and his daughter were injured when their two-seat sport biplane crashed yesterday near Tappahannock-Essex County Airport.

David S. Harvey, 62, of Heathsville and his teenage daughter, Daniella, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were flown to VCU Medical Center, said Sgt. Tom Cunningham, spokesman for the Virginia State Police.

Cunningham relayed a report from a witness, who saw the Starduster Too SA300 take off, reach a low altitude and experience what appeared to be engine trouble before nose-diving into the woods about 500 yards from the end of the runway.

The crash happened about 3:30 p.m. Cunningham said a representative of the Federal Aviation Administration was on the way to investigate.
