At least six people were killed in crashes over the holiday weekend in Virginia.

  • Eugenia Bowman Depriest, a 51-year-old Emporia woman, was killed in a two-vehicle crash early yesterday morning in Greensville County. She was driving a car that veered into incoming traffic shortly after midnight and hit another car head-on, police said. She was not wearing a seat belt, state police said.
  • Cameron Owen May, 17, of Brookneal died at 12:40 a.m. yesterday at the scene of a crash on state Route 40, just east of state Route 880 in Halifax County. Police said he lost control of the car, which ran off the road and struck a tree. May, who police said was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected.
  • Rosevelt Rogers, 70, of New Jersey died at 1:20 p.m. Saturday in a crash on Interstate 95, just north of Exit 143 in Stafford County. Police said Rogers lost control of the car, which struck a bridge, rolled one time and came to rest on the shoulder of the highway. He was wearing a seat belt, police said.
  • Nicole J. Lambert, 26, of Virginia Beach died at 1:32 p.m. Saturday, about 20 minutes after a crash on Blackwater Road, 1 mile north of Ives Road in Virginia Beach. Police said Lambert came out of a sharp turn and lost control of the car, which ran off the road and flipped. She was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
  • Ricky Edward Benjamin, 49, of Kenbridge died in a single-car crash Friday morning, state police said. He was driving in Kenbridge in Lunenburg County when his car struck a mailbox and a tree at 7:50 a.m., police said. He died at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt, authorities said.
  • Keishaun L. Nash, 23, of the 900 block of Derrymore Road in South Richmond died Friday afternoon after his sport utility vehicle crashed into Lickinghole Creek in Goochland County. He was pronounced dead after his body was recovered from the creek about 5:30 p.m., Goochland Sheriff James L. Agnew said.

    As of today, Virginia's 2008 highway death toll to 409, compared with 500 at the same time last year.
