Chesterfield County police are investigating the death of a Midlothian woman who was found strangled Monday in her apartment.

The victim was identified as Heidi P. Cunningham, 38, of the 600 block of Fern Meadow Loop.

Police responded to her home about 3:45 p.m. after getting a call from her parents, who live out of state, to check on her welfare.

Police did not initially find anything that would lead them to suspect foul play, but after an autopsy, they learned the woman had died of strangulation, Capt. Paige Foster said.

Cunningham was married but lived alone in the apartment, Foster said.
