Plus, here's a last-minute look at what else you need to know before heading out the door to catch the 69th National Folk Festival, which begins tonight in downtown Richmond.
Continuing through Sunday, the festival is expected to draw more than 100,000 people. There will be more than 30 performing groups on seven stages.
When: 6-10:30 p.m. today, noon-10:30 p.m. tomorrow and noon-7 p.m. Sunday
Where: Richmond's riverfront, from Second to Seventh streets and from Byrd Street to the James
Tonight's performances: They begin at 6:30 with the Virginia Intertribal Dance Group, near the Ukrop's/First Market Bank Stage. Virginia first lady Anne Holton and Richmond Mayor L. Douglas Wilder will officially open the festival at 7:15.
Handicap access: Free parking in the RMA deck between Eighth and Ninth streets and Canal and Byrd streets. Entrance is on Canal Street, before the Ninth Street intersection. An officer will be on hand to allow properly identified vehicles into the lot. For assistance at the festival, visit any information booth.
Weather: The forecast calls for sunny skies, with high temperatures around 70 degrees and lows in the 40s.
No dogs allowed: Do not bring pets, other than service animals.
What you can bring: Food and nonalcoholic beverages.
Marketplace: Traditional crafts and demonstrations in the Ten Thousand Villages Marketplace feature master artisans selling a variety of handcrafted arts.
Volunteers: More than 1,000 volunteers work the festival, helping visitors find restrooms, first-aid stations and performance stages.
Bucket brigade: Admission is free, but you'll see a group of volunteers in bright orange shirts carrying orange buckets. All donations will help keep the National Folk Festival a free event.
Nearby: The American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar will offer free admission and extended hours during the festival in celebration of its first anniversary. The exhibit, "In the Cause of Liberty," will be open tomorrow and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
