The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, whose interim director left her post last week, has launched a search for a new executive director.
"The work of the museum is going forward," said Stacy Burrs, chairman of the museum's board of directors.
He said a museum committee met Wednesday to set a timeline for the search and to begin looking over applications already received.
The deadline for applications is June 14, and a new director should be on the job by September, he said.
Nicole Gilpin Hood left her post as interim director on April 30 but will continue in an advisory capacity until a new director is hired. Burrs said Gilpin Hood resigned to spend more time with her two young daughters.
The museum in Jackson Ward also is seeking to make up the loss of $30,000 in state funding.
"It's not an unusual circumstance," Burrs said. "We know not to become overly reliant on one source of funding."
But he said the museum had to "take that one on the chin" and will continue to cultivate other revenue sources.
"The museum is stable," Burrs said. "It won't be cutting hours."
The museum, at 00 Clay St., is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children 12 and younger.
